The National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) everyday, runs six different programmes with a team of 25, that sometimes can feel overwhelmed. That’s why the NCVO welcomes volunteers to help get the work done.
The NCVO thrives off those in the community donating their money but also people donating their time.
“Volunteers play a major part in our programmes. The NCVO runs six different programmes, preschool, nursery, there’s the John Gray grant, the Caring Cousins lunch support programme, the foster home of course and the small bargain shop that we run,” said NCVO Coordinator, Alta Solomon.
She told Cayman 27 throughout the calendar year there are several ways for corporate groups and individuals to get involved.
“For people who have a busy schedule, there are opportunities to get involved on the weekend, maybe on Saturday if the want to volunteer in our Bargain Shop,” she said.
Mrs. Bodden also suggests people can create their own volunteering opportunities.
“We ask for volunteers to even hold small fundraising events; you can volunteer that way so you can do it on your schedule.”
She said any person who wishes to help make an impact in the lives of others will be welcomed into the organisation’s fold.
“There’s really no skill base that we ask for when volunteering. Of course if it’s within the preschool or nursery, an educational background would be nice, but it’s just someone who wants to give, who wants to be a part of a great organisation that makes a huge impact in our community,” explained Mrs. Solomon.
She encourages people to lend a hand, not only to help others, but to help themselves as well.
“It’s a beautiful thing to put yourself out there and help others; and the NCVO gives you a way to do that,” she said.
